Personal

Carlos A. Diez was born in Cuba and, though he arrived in the US as a small child, speaks Spanish fluently. He grew up in Miami and graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. in Economics, and had a successful career in the telecommunications industry in data networking and technical marketing roles in Washington, DC and New York. During this time, he took an interest in and did graduate work in computer network engineering and database systems. He then entered the real estate profession, first as a sales agent and investor in New York City, and then as an appraiser upon his return to Miami. Fascinated by the economics of real estate, he enrolled in every course he could and completed the Appraisal Institute MAI education curriculum within three years, and the core CCIM curriculum within one year. He earned his stripes as an appraiser in the challenging environment leading up to and following the financial crisis. In recent years, drawing on his technology background, he has been exploring ways to use database systems to enhance the quality and efficiency of real estate market analysis and appraisal processes, and is an ardent believer in the potential for technology to transform the field of commercial real estate for the better. Mr. Diez lives in Miami with his wife, pianist Sahily Cánovas.
